Scottish Premiership: Celtic and Aberdeen both stay perfect with wins

Kyogo Furuhashi struck twice as Celtic continued their imperious start to the season with a 6-0 triumph over St Johnstone in Perth.

The Japan forward scored either side of Paulo Bernardo in the final 10 minutes of the first half. Callum McGregor added to the lead with his fourth long-range goal of the season, Daizen Maeda got on the scoresheet after having a first-half effort controversially disallowed and substitute Adam Idah rounded off the scoring.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have now won their first nine matches of the season, scoring 33 goals along the way, and have totalled 17 consecutive victories stretching back to last term.

With Auston Trusty starting in place of the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers in central defence, Celtic maintained their record of not conceding a goal in the Scottish Premiership this season following their sixth match.

Aberdeen extended their perfect start to the league season with a narrow 2-1 win over Dundee at Dens Park. The Dons scored twice in the first half through Kevin Nisbet and Topi Keskinen before Simon Murray pulled one back before the break for the hosts.

The Dark Blues edged proceedings in the second half but could not find the back of the net with the result taking the Dons to six league wins from six.

Lawrence Shankland finally broke his duck for the season as his stoppage-time equaliser helped managerless Hearts end an eight-game losing streak in a 1-1 draw at home to Ross County.

The bottom-of-the-table Edinburgh side, under the interim charge of Liam Fox following Steven Naismith’s sacking last weekend, looked set for another defeat as they toiled to find a response to Ronan Hale’s stunning first-half opener for the Staggies. But Hearts’ second-half pressure eventually paid off six minutes into added time when Shankland’s first goal of the campaign earned them their first point since they drew with Rangers in their opening match.

Ross Graham’s last-gasp spot-kick denied Kilmarnock their first league win of the season as Dundee United salvaged a 3-3 draw in a remarkable game at Rugby Park.

United had led at half-time through Louis Moult’s second goal in as many games but David Watson’s spectacular volley and steered finish put the hosts 2-1 ahead.

Marley Watkins bundled home a third just after the hour mark and Killie appeared to be coasting to three points until VAR intervened, recommending referee Craig Napier reverse his decision to disallow Craig Sibbald’s long-range goal for a foul.

Napier was at the centre of the action again deep into added time when he adjudged Luca Stephenson to have been fouled and United defender Graham duly sent Kieran O’Hara the wrong way from the penalty spot to secure a draw. Killie remain 11th after the late disappointment, while United slip to sixth despite the equaliser.

Lennon Miller was the hero for Motherwell again as he scored two goals to defeat St Mirren 2-1 at Fir Park. The 18-year-old, who slotted away the winning penalty to take Motherwell to the semi-final of the Premier Sports Cup last weekend, inspired them to a comeback victory with another man-of-the-match display.

Miller converted from the spot to cancel out Killian Phillips’ early opener and would slam home his second just before half-time to clinch all three points for Stuart Kettlewell’s men.
