Kwakman to leave Groningen

Groningen captain Kees Kwakman has announced his decision to leave the club after two seasons.

Defender Kwakman signed for the Eredivisie side in 2011 and has 49 appearances for the club, scoring just one goal against RKC Waalwijk in November.
After a disappointing first season at the club, when they finished 14th, Groningen improved this season and qualified for the European play-off with a seventh-placed finish.
They met sixth-placed FC Twente in their semi-final but were beaten 4-2 on aggregate.
With the season complete Kwakman announced his decision to leave the club, explaining that he wanted to move abroad and test himself in a different league.
I have recently taken the time to think about my future, he told the club s official website. I have had more and more feelings that I want a foreign adventure.
There are a few contacts, but there is nothing definite. Because FC Groningen wanted to know where it was up to, we decided to go our separate ways.
Techninal manager Henk Veldmate admitted there was disappointment That Kwakman had to decided to leave but hoped that the space left by the captain would mean a chance for someone else at the club.
We respect the desire of (Kees) Kwakman (to leave the club), he said. We are of the opinion that we have sufficient talent within the club to fulfil Kees role.
